Another weekend but not just another competition. The Fioretto under 13 challenge is one of only 2 such events we run each year. They are a great opportunity for young and aspiring fencers to get their first experience at competitive fencing and to cross blades with some of the top fencers in the age group. This round was no exception, with a fantastic turn out from Fioretto, 9 fencers in all, and 3 of Victoria's top U13 fencers from 2 other clubs. While the experience gap was sometimes vaste there was plenty of grit to make up for it. The most important thing was that everyone came, saw and walked away with a great experience, if not a medal.
With 12 fencers total, including 4 girls, we were able to rund two mixed seeding pooles and then split the boys and girls into their own competitions to decide their finals and medals amonsgt themselves. Many thanks go to Adam Reynolds who was their on the day to help referee and run the competition. In fact Adam has been an invaluable help all year at Fioretto FC competitions, always ready to pitch in and lend a hand - Thank you. It was clear from the start that TC, Jack D and Gabe had a big experience advantage over the rest of the field, but it did not stop the others form putting in great efforts. Youngsters like Liam and Will B have barely had time to catch their breath after finishing their beginner's course, and yet managed to give the favourites some trouble and score some nice points while they were at it! In the end however it came down to a match up of Jack D and TC. TC went into the final 'guns blazing' and rarely made an error as he took the day 10/3. Jack D showed he could score nice points too but was unable to contain his opponents attacks. Liam showed great focus to get himself into the match for 3rd place, but it was not enough to overcome Gabe's experience and years of training. The girls competition however was an all Fioretto affair, with the final playing out the see-saw struggle between Lexie and Nicole that has been going on for a few weeks now. While Nicole bested Lexie in the seeding bouts in was Lexie who took an early and commanding lead in their final match. Nicole seemed to shake off her nerves under pressure and came back dangerously to level the score but Lexie would not be beaten again and pulled away to win 10/7. An excellent bout from both young ladies. Jessica Q and Clare went head to head for 3rd and Clare certainly gave it everything she had. Jessica however, had the advantage of experience and managed to hold on and take third place. Congratulations to both girls. Final Results| Place | Boys | Club | | Place | Girls | Club | | 1st | T.C.
