As the 2009 fencing season draws to it's conclusion, Fioretto's juniors are getting into the action. On the 11th of October 5 of our youngsters took part in the Fencing Victoria junior club challenge. And the results were as great as their efforts. But it doesn't stop there. Young Nick, having competed widely this year in under 13 and under 15 events, including taking the title for the JD U13 Cup in the club, is now packing his bags and looking to Sydney for his next big fencing adventure!

Along with 4 other juniors, including CJ who is an experienced veteran of state representation, Nick earned a 6th place in the recent U13 event. Along with CJ's silver in the U15's and bronze in the U17's, a strong effort and 12th from Addison, and Nicola and Lexie who brought home silver and bronze for  the U13 girls, Nick helped our Junior team win second place in the inaugral FV Clubs Challenge junior event (on combined results).

In the absence of National Under-13 Championships, the NSW State Under-13 Championships have become the de facto Australian showcase children's event, attracting fencers from across Australia and New Zealand - truly a fantastic opportunity for our most junior athletes.  Competitors from these Championships have gone on to medal in National titles and represent Australia overseas. 

One of the youngest Fioretto fencer to have represented Victoria – Nick Mezo – is part of the “Vic Bandits” team heading north this weekend.  This squad has been training individually and as a group for some weeks in anticipation of this trip – we wish Nick and the rest of the Vic Bandits team the best of fencing in NSW.

But the fun will not stop there. On October 24th our club will hold it's second Fioretto Challenge under 13's foil event for 2009. And hot on it's heels, the Fencing Victoria School competition for U13 and U15 on Sunday the 8th November. With our growing cadet squad these 2 events will serve as valuable experience for our kids, and great opportunity to consolidate our squad in preparation for 2010. Good luck to all.
